MY ROLE

Logo and Brand Identity Designer, Art Direction and Illustrator

Global Alliance for Rabies Control

In 2015 Brooklyn United was hired by the Global Alliance for Rabies Control (GARC), a well known non-profit organization. Our job was to design, direct and develop a campaign committed at creating awareness with the goal to eliminate human deaths from rabies as well as to relieve the burden of the disease in animal populations, especially dogs.

As lead designer I was responsible for designing the logo and brand identity system. This system would then be implemented on multiple of pieces such as posters, newsletters, magazine ads, website, online banners.

Designing the logo

Our research into the lives of our target communities revealed the strong presence dogs have in people’s daily lives. In these impoverished communities street dogs are common, and they are in close contact with families and especially children playing in the streets. In designing the logo I wanted to make it responsive and that could collapse and adapt to any device. The icon itself summarizes the close bond between man, child and dog.

Patterns

This campaign needed to reach multiple cultures and countries. During my research process I found examples of exquisite patterns used by these countries in their arts and crafts. In addition to designing the logo and I integrated graphic representation of a series of geometric patterns to further enrich the eclectic nature of this campaign.

Rabies virus character

I designed this little fellow for fun. During the discovery process I looked at multiple images of the Rabies virus. To me it looks like a hairy bullet. So I tried making a character out of it in photoshop, one that we could use in other design pieces. It was never used, but I like him. :)

Responsive site

One of the real insights we discovered during our research is that the majority of people in the west hemisphere think of rabies as an old malady. Many were surprised to know that there are a great number of countries which struggle with this horrible virus. One of the best features we included in the website is an interactive world map where the user can hover or type a country and a small box would inform him or her about rabies related statistics in that country.
